What are the laws for seating a toddler in a 2-seat convertible vehicle?

It's legal to put a child in the passenger seat. You should have an airbag off switch for the passenger side.
How old and heavy is the child? Rear or forward facing? It may not be ideal to put a child there, so if it's an occasional vehicle I may skip it. Rear facing if you cannot use a switch to turn off the airbag (not trusting a sensor to do it) you don't want to put a child there. But if the airbag has to be on you don't want an untethered forward facing seat there, ideally, and depending on your car (what is it?) you may not have tethers. So you're looking at airbag injuries or death if that's the case. If you can turn off the airbag I'd put the child rear facing (as they should be until at the bare minimum two years old anyway, preferably longer) and that'd be fine. Probably a lot of fun.
