Display models being sold

I thought that display model car seats were not allowed to be sold. I was in TRU yesterday and as I was checking out I noticed that they had a snugride on clearance for $35. Upon closer inspection I noticed that very clearly on the base and on the seat it said "Display model Not for sale". How can stores sell products that very clearly say "not for sale"?

I wasn't entirely sure or certain so I thought I would double check. Unfortunately this was in St Louis and I am back home (100 miles away). If someone lives closer and wants to take it up with the manager I have no problem giving the location and can send you a pic I took with my phone. (Not a good pic but some proof...)

I was at Burlington a couple weeks ago and seen a sales person sell an Evenflo travel system to a teen mom. She even said this is our display so it has no box or anything, but its the last one so if you want it....:thumbsdown:

This did not have a box either and had the label on the seat itself like an airbag label, "Not for sale".

It's more weird that an R store had anything that was labeled not for sale, that's extremely atypical...the only thing I've ever seen at BRU that said not for sale, display only, was a Fisher Price portable highchair. Everything just gets tossed out of the box onto the floor and we HOPE it gets sold without too much of a discount. Maybe snugrides are different since I would have liked to have labeled a couple of my bases after they stopped carrying them, some exuberant salesperson has annoyingly sold the bases that go WITH travel systems, so now the TS's are useless

Generally there's no rule against selling floor models. I bought one myself one time, as it still had the registration card attached and in pristine condition. I figured it couldn't have suffered too much abuse.

However, there's definitely something wrong with selling a seat labeled as a floor model with instructions not to sell. I would imagine the stores got those for free from the manufacturer with the understanding that they're for display only.

I'm not sure there's necessarily a safety issue (other than abuse by employees/customers, which I'm not necessarily discounting), but I'd imagine the store is violating their agreement with the manufacturers.

I am a Burlington Baby Depot manager. I sell my floor models, as long as I feel it is safe to do so. I have thrown a lot of stuff away.

when it specifically says not for sale, then it is blatently wrong... otherwise, it's at the discretion of the store.
