Side rear air bags

Is there any information on whether or not side rear air bags are more harmful to a child seated by the window? With two grandchildren to drive around one will be by the window - the oldest (3 yrs).

I am hoping to purchase a 2004 Camry XLE V6 next year and had planned on having the side impace bags installed.

Should I rethink this since I take care of the grandson (s) daily?

Current thinking is that as long as the child is not out of position, they are safe and even helped in a crash by side curtain airbags. If the 3 yo is in a booster and doesn't always stay in position, it may be better to put the younger child (presumably in a convertible or other 5 pt seat) nearest the airbag and have the older one in a booster in the middle (provided there is a shoulder belt in that position....there should be on an '04 Camry).

Many of the newer side airbags are infact designed with out of position occupants in mind. It is very likely that Toyota has done this for the new Camry.

Side airbags have been shown to be extremely effective in reducing injury.
