YAY it came!

I got my..wait..J's..RN XTSL today! Probably won't be able to install till this weekend but I pulled it out of the box and played with it until I got yelled at to go to bed.

So far, I'm not sure how I feel about the pattern I picked. I got it in Shadow. It feels like comfortable material, but not sure how well it will hold up. Not a huge deal because I am sure I can get a new cover at some point.

I played with the harness some, and the center adjuster. Wanted to see how it worked before I start fitting J in it. So far seems fairly easy, about on par with the center adjuster on our AP. I didn't start unthreading anything because I wanted to read through the manual a few times first and take better photos of what it looks like first in case I mess it up. The pics in the manual aren't anything to write home about. I kind of wanted to mess around with some of the things that people listed as Con's in their reviews.

I expected the seat to be heavy and I had a little trouble getting it out of the box. But the way some people reviewed it made it sound like they were lugging around a giant bolder. Once I had it out of the box, it really didn't feel that bad. I don't know if I would want to lug it around an airport, but I wasn't doubled over from a hernia or anything. I also read in quite a few reviews, people were upset the seat didn't stand on its own. I didn't find this an issue considering when I opened the box, the first thing to greet me was a little card showing how to install the RF base as if I was putting the seat on display. Took me 5 seconds to pop that base on and voila, the seat sits up for me to work with.

I do wish the seat cushions were easier to mount. Anyone have any help for that one? I see they have velcro on the back..but there's no velcro on the seat itself in those areas. Does it just stick to the regular seat fabric? J is under 30 lbs and according to the manual it says he still needs to use those cushions, otherwise I would store them away.

That's about as far as I got today. I like the feel of the seat. Very solid, even DH seemed impressed. He did make a comment about the seat being so tall. I told him for what I paid for it, J would be able to use it up to 80 lbs or 53", and since it looks like he's poised to be tall..we need the height. Hopefully it cooperates with being installed in my car.

I think the 30lbs refers to the maximum weight you're allowed to use it. We stopped using the padding at way less than that, and the 65s don't even come with the padding. The velcro is to attach the head thing to the body pillow, not for attaching the body pillow to the seat... I hope I understood that question correctly!!

Would you mind taking some pics of the Shadow cover? I have yet to see one and I'm trying to decide between those and Ventura when I get the boys their matching covers. :)

Sunny, thanks for the comment about the cushions. I may try them and see how they work with DS and if they look like they aren't needed, I'll take them out. I guess it depends on if the harness slot he ends up needing to use is below the headwings. The headwings are for the top 3 harness slots, am I correct? I'm at work right now, but hopefully Thursday I will be able to get some preliminary pictures of the seat for you. The cover looks way different than what I expected from the photo on amazon. The amazon photo made it look more like..leather? Not that I expected a leather carseat, lol. It looks and feels more like soft denim.

ETA: The body pillow side cushion things also have two velcro pieces on each corner..almost like it was designed to keep it stuck to the sides of the seats. Now that you point out the head pillow attaches to the body pillow, I see that in relation to the photo. But that would go down the center of the back of the body pillow, and I don't think there's any velcro in that position. But I will have to look again.
