I got my..wait..J's..RN XTSL today! Probably won't be able to install till this weekend but I pulled it out of the box and played with it until I got yelled at to go to bed.
So far, I'm not sure how I feel about the pattern I picked. I got it in Shadow. It feels like comfortable material, but not sure how well it will hold up. Not a huge deal because I am sure I can get a new cover at some point.
I played with the harness some, and the center adjuster. Wanted to see how it worked before I start fitting J in it. So far seems fairly easy, about on par with the center adjuster on our AP. I didn't start unthreading anything because I wanted to read through the manual a few times first and take better photos of what it looks like first in case I mess it up. The pics in the manual aren't anything to write home about. I kind of wanted to mess around with some of the things that people listed as Con's in their reviews.
I expected the seat to be heavy and I had a little trouble getting it out of the box. But the way some people reviewed it made it sound like they were lugging around a giant bolder. Once I had it out of the box, it really didn't feel that bad. I don't know if I would want to lug it around an airport, but I wasn't doubled over from a hernia or anything. I also read in quite a few reviews, people were upset the seat didn't stand on its own. I didn't find this an issue considering when I opened the box, the first thing to greet me was a little card showing how to install the RF base as if I was putting the seat on display. Took me 5 seconds to pop that base on and voila, the seat sits up for me to work with.
I do wish the seat cushions were easier to mount. Anyone have any help for that one? I see they have velcro on the back..but there's no velcro on the seat itself in those areas. Does it just stick to the regular seat fabric? J is under 30 lbs and according to the manual it says he still needs to use those cushions, otherwise I would store them away.
That's about as far as I got today. I like the feel of the seat. Very solid, even DH seemed impressed. He did make a comment about the seat being so tall. I told him for what I paid for it, J would be able to use it up to 80 lbs or 53", and since it looks like he's poised to be tall..we need the height. Hopefully it cooperates with being installed in my car.
