Ex husband was in an accident/insurance question

What exactly are the qualifications for needing to buy a new seat? Any accident?

Airbags were not deployed. he was driving an 07 Honda Fit, hit a patch of ice, and spun and slid into a ditch, hitting the side of the ditch while his car was up on the 2 driver side wheels, before coming down on all 4. Ripped off his bumper, shattered his driverside window, ripped off the side mirror and gas door and smashed the side of the car in.

DS's car seat (EFTA) was installed RF behind the passenger seat with LATCH. DS was NOT in the car with him, thank god! (we were however about 2 minutes behind him and came up on him right after he crashed)

I'm guessing we need to replace this seat, correct?

How does it work with insurance? Ex-DH says the insurance company said if we purchase a new seat of equal value and submit the receipt, we'll get reimbursed? Does that sound right? (not that i DOUBT Ex....but not sure he knows what he's talking about either LOL!)

Thanks!

Evenflo requires replacement after any collision. That one was definitely severe enough to warrant it.

Different insurance companies do different things. Some will replace the original value, some the depreciated value, some carte blanche, some will give you X amount up front to go shopping. So what you mentioned sounds completely normal.

Glad he's ok and your son wasn't with him at the time.

Yes, you buy the seat, send them the receipt and they send you a check ( this is how it goes with most insurance companies anyway). Some of them are very specific about you getting the same exact model and so. You might wanna find out all the details before buying the new seat. My friend's insurance only required the price to match so she found a seat that she liked better in the same price range and they accepted it. The other friend had to get the same exact seat.
