The expired Century Accel I took home this weekend. I tried hammering it. No go. I tried sawing it. Not enough. I tried running over it with my truck. I did more damage to the driveway than the carseat. ARGH!!!! I ended up doing what I could to it, writing DEADLY, DO NOT USE, MUERTO, NO USAR, EXPIRED and such on it, as well as drawing skulls and crossbones on it and stick figures of dead people. Then putting that in a bag and just putting it in my garbage can to be picked up tomorrow. The straps are in a million pieces, courtesy of Piper, so those aren't a concern.

Sheesh. For an expired seat it's putting up quite the fight!!! Ah well.

Wow that's one seat that just DOESN'T want to die! My husband and my best friends husband had to take axes to the seats I've had destroyed and even they found it difficult for some seats (the evenflo were easy though lol).

Too funny. I posted a while back about taking seats from a Salvation Army drop box. One was a almost 10 year old Century Bravo (OHS) and it also just would not DIE! I took off the cover, straps, and managed to cut off the shield, but the shell could NOT be destroyed. I did everything but run over it (DH wouldnt be happy if I tried!). I also ended up writing like crazy on it, but not in spanish, DOH. I wish I would have thought of that!

I seriously LOL here Wendy.

Loving the skull and crossbones idea. ;)

I couldn't tear up an old Graco combo seat I had either. It was like an original Cargo or something ... I, too, tried to hammer, to no avail, a saw..not happening...didn't have the vehicle home to try that manner, but, seeing that we have a gravel driveway, that likely wouldn't have done anything either. So, I ripped and cut all I could and wrote all over then placed in a black garbage bag and to the dumpster for morning pick up.

I think I'd like to see the pics of your artwork too :p hehe

on the other hand, i wonder how easy it is to cut a cosco/dorel seat... i bet you could almost slice one in half with a butter knife! ;)

Ha ha! That sounds like fun at least. I have to have enough faith in humans to think that if you found a seat with no cover, or straps, and have a skull and cross bones on it, that you wouldn't take it, or use it if you did take it for whatever reason. If someone was that much of an idiot, they would probably also take a seat that was ripped in half and try to repair it with duct tape!

I had an expired Evenflo On My Way that also would not die. I beat that thing with everything I could find and finally had to back over it with a tractor! :D

Oh, forgot. I tried using our gas powered trimmer on it as well. That did NOTHING.

Lots of spanish here, so I wanted to make sure the point got across. :)

I think that even with my truck attempting to run over it, I was never going very fast, only one wheel was on it, and by no means was anything I was doing representing true crash forces. But yeah, it had me wondering. LOL

Nope. I was trying to destroy an expired Touriva a couple of years ago and had similar problems that others are describing :p . I think another tech said at that time that her dh had had some success with a circular saw, but that it ate the blades up pretty quickly.

I had similar experiences dismantling our old Accel and Touriva. They would not succumb to several manual tools. I didn't think to try the weedwacker, lol, and didn't have a handy chainsaw to try, although my pruning saw made a valiant attempt to cut through the shells and scratched/gouged them up a bit. I also ended up writing lots of warnings on the shell about the seat being in a crash, no longer safe to use, a child could die in it, etc. and putting them out on the curb in dark trash bags on the morning of trash pickup day. A friend suggested writing a child did die in them/the seats were cursed/other more morbid warnings  but I didn't quite go that far.
