Washing a Yucky Harness

My friend has a Snugride and a LO that is a spitter. Consequently, the straps are NASTY. I am a confused on how best to wash the straps. She cannot submerge them, correct? However, I don't think a wet washcloth is going to get these clean. They are just bad. She wants to take the whole thing apart and wash it, but not sure about the harness.

Can someone clear this up for me??

Thanks

I would just replace them if they are beyond spot cleaning :p

And from now on tuck a bib under the kid's chin in the car ;)

I sympathise! My youngest spits up a lot too, and lucky enough for me, all over his straps! They aren't bad, but I'll be replacing them soon regardless, puke gets in to every little crevice on the straps, anywhere that spew can stick to it will! I wouldn't be able to get the spew out without scrubbing it with a toothbrush, which is a big NO NO. So replacement straps it is! In the meantime I try to do what skaterbabs suggested, thin blanket over the TOP of the straps. Sometimes a bib does work though, has to be big enough.

Gregory was a spitter, and at 4 mos Joyjoy had some ferocious 36 hour tummy bug that had her projectile vomiting anything other than breastmilk. Saved our nursing relationship in all likelyhood, but unpleasnat all the same. (She was borderline Failure to Thrive, didn't regain her birthweight until 2 mos old, and was being supplimented with forumula at the time.)

I learned the hard way about the blanket. ;)

I think a new set costs around $13 from Graco. They have them on their website under replacement parts, but you'll need the model # and serial # off the seat.
