i feel like i did...

i was at bible study and another mama and i went to check out the clothing bank since she had a key so we could check it out..and there was a dirty old snugride that expires in 2012..so i took it. im in the income guideline to take stuff if i need it..i dont need it but i had visions in my head of little babies being ejected from cars because of the seats unknown history. in order to drop stuff off for this clothing bank you have to drop it in a big metal bin (think size of dumpster) so i know this thing possibly took a hard fall if the bin was empty. and it was NASTY dirty and missing the base..so who ever donated it obviously didnt take good care of it..

Yep. I would have taken it to!

I took some seats that were left out for the brush pick up in my neighborhood. People always drive around and comb through the trash looking for treasures. I didn't want some poor kiddo ending up in one.

I "rescued" an old and broken Cosco infant seat that someone left in the "free for the taking" area of my apartment building.

yes... it is not safe for a baby to use... I wouldn't have thought twice.

If you feel bad, when you have the money, you could buy and donate a brand new seat, or even donate your own infant seat when you have finished using it.

I know some people who did things similar during one of the BRU trade-in events. They'd scour yardsales and thriftstores and buy old carseats/strollers for cheap, turn them in and get the 25% off one item. I considered doing the same thing when we were looking at buying our jogging stroller. We have a "Care Closet" in our office where people can drop off items they no longer need and wish to donate to others in the squadron, and it makes me sad with how expensive baby things are that people don't treat stuff better.

I would have done the same thing. In my area we have these bins for donations. I've taken seats from them. I've taken the straps and covers off. Throw the covers(usually nasty to the point I scrub my hands after touching them) and straps in my own garbage then write "CRASHED" all over the shell and dump it in a dumpster.
