Chase is 9 months old and can't fit in the MA70!

DH and I picked Ethan & Chase up this morning for an overnight visit. I have the TFP and the MA 70 in my car. I was planning to put Ethan in the TFP so he'd have more leg room and Chase in the MA70. Well, even on the lowest harness position, the straps are still ABOVE Chase's shoulders! Granted, Chase is very small for a 9 month old (I believe his mom said he's only in the 5th percentile for height), but this is crazy! The only thing I don't like about this new Britax seat is the fact that you would have to buy the positioning wedge separately in order for a noob to fit in it. I didn't think to get a picture of Chase in it, but I will after the boys are up from their nap since we are planning a trip to TRU. The one we are going to is a BRU and TRU all in one store, so I think I will send DH with Ethan to look at toys while Chase and I play with car seats and strollers!

Good thing I have the TFP so I just had the boys swap seats!

if it makes you feel better, when I got the original Marathon for Ruthanne, she was about 1yr old and she was just a HAIR over the bottom slots.... so that wouldn't surprise me (and she had a long torso)

Alex was a full year old before he *truly* fit into the AOE (same 10 inch bottom slots) even though I was comfortable making the parental decision to have him use it with the slots slightly above his shouders prior to that. Silly tiny babies ! :)

You just hit the nail on the head as to why i am disliking a lot of these new "big seats" they are coming out with. They are great if your child is on the higher end of the scales, but what happens when you have a tiny kid that outgrows their infant seat, but isn't big enough for a "convertible"?

I think Britax made a big mistake retiring the classic roundabout and making their smallest seat the Roundabout 50.

(sorry, just a side thought!)

i also thought you were going to say that he was too big, so at least he can grow into it

I helped a dad two weeks ago with a Boulevard 70 for his eight month old who was 31 pounds and probably at least as tall as Laine. He will fit to rear face in it for another six months by height perhaps. This kid is HUGE. I think the seat was the completely wrong seat for them, but not my place to tell them they made a $300 purchase since it does work. So the new Britaxes aren't great for the higher end of the charts kids either.

This is possibly true, though some convertibles like the MR do fit littles really well. Also, the MA70 does fit tiny babies with infant foam. Is it annoying to have to buy it separate? Yes, but it does make it a usable seat with a small baby. My 6 pound/18 inch newborn fit in the MA70 with the infant padding.

Makes me realize how freakish my kid is. At 8 months he was on the 2nd slot of the RA50. Hes above the 2nd slot on our 55 too. Darn big babies!
