It still has the 1 1/2 rule for the handle, but the handle is closer to the body of the seat, which should help.

They say it tested better that way.

Or because it's cheaper (to not bother reinforcing their handles) and their sales are so high they don't care and don't have to do anything to keep raking in the money from unsuspecting parents who probably use it wrong anyway and haven't had an injured child yet to sue them?

So is this the Embrace replacement? We've completely stopped carrying the bases and the last travel systems are discontinued...

Evenflo says in a rear impact, that clearance is needed to give the infant seat time to rotate up and away from the front seat that may be collapsing towards the infant seat.

well it looks like its the exact same as the serenade so I guess maybe it will have the surelatch

The Serenade has been brought back with a stroller as a travel system and rebranded the Secure Ride 35. There will be versions with and without the E3 side impact system.

I dk but I like the patterns :(...I'm not feeling any of the graco patterns right now and I need an infant seat under 140

I can get THAT... but why not follow suit with the other carseat companies (or with the compass infant seat... remember, designed and all by a guy who LEFT EVENFLO) and improve the handles so they can be used with them in the up position or forward by the feet for anti-rebound protection?

I'm just on a really tight budget right now...baby is due in may and i'm working part time at kohls (not allowed to work anymore) and the LO's father isn't around. Plus I have a Acura Cl 3.0 (coupe) that I have to find something to fit in....I really want a keyfit but I don't think thats an option right now

One problem with this seat is the requirement (being discussed above) that the handle be left down with 1.5 inches of clearance between the handle and the front seat of the car. Very few vehicles are large enough to accommodate this.

For an inexpensive option to get you through the first year or so, I would suggest either one of the Graco Snugrides or the Safety 1st OnBoard 35. For both brands, make sure there is a front adjust harness.

Do you need a stroller/travel system option? Anyway, here are a couple of less expensive options I found on Amazon (free shipping if you join Amazon MOM):

Graco:

Stalk baby earth's gaga deals. Or, just look for a good deal. There have been several sales lately putting the onboard 35 at under $100.

Judi, how do you know these things? Is the Serenade discontinued, or is the
Embrace discontinued? I saw a couple of newer looking Embraces at Sears the other day. Both under $100 and both with front adjusters. One was Shiloh. The other I couldn't find a name for. I've already forgotten what they looked like. I looked at a lot of car seats that day.

I thought both were discontinued.

We had a class with an Evenflo rep. It was actually during the same class that Misty and I taught.

So neither are discontinued? The Serenade I did not see anywhere in my car seat seeking travels last weekend.
