Can rear head curtain airbags be added aftermarket?

I would doubt it (at least not reputably), but don't know for sure.

Pretty much what I figured -- I just hoped someone might know something I didn't.
There's no way.
Even if there was enough of a market for such a thing, it would be virtually impossible to get the controls right without doing one of the following:
1)engineering an entire system (sensors, controller, airbags) from the ground up and running it on it's own independent harness throughout the cabin.
2)Know every 1, 0, mV, and mA of the OEM control system, add the missing components, add enough wires and lines of code to make it all talk together. You'd still end up stringing wires all over the vehicle and buying a lot of hardware.
3) If you're very lucky, it might be possible to add components from a later model year that did have side airbags. However, there would still be a lot of headaches and hassles to get all the systems working together as they should. It would make hacking an iPhone seem like child's play by comparison.
All told, I'm guessing it would be cheaper to buy a brand new vehicle than to retrofit one without airbags.
I haven't tried looking, but if somebody offers an "aftermarket airbag" I'd be very very scared.
