Sewn vs not comfort pads on Britax seats

So I'm curious, besides the obvious, what's the difference/benefits with this. Which is preferred. Mine are Velcro but I can easily sew them up if is somehow more beneficial. Just curious really.

If it came with the seat, I would leave it how it came. It's obviously been tested that way, so it's safer to do it that way. You never want to make any changes to the car seat or accessories (that it came with) in any way. If it didn't come with the seat, it shouldn't be used with the seat.

My BLVD came with the sewn ones, they're fine. WHen I bought my RA50, someone here very kindly gave me velcro ones (I checked with Britax on the safety issue and they said since they were for comfort only, they were absolutely safe to put on the RA50 and did not affect the safety of the seat). I see no difference between the two other than it is easier to remove the velcro for cleaning.

HTH!

She's just talking about the shoulder pads I think, and how they stay shut around the harness. :) I can't remember the order, but I think they were velcro first, then they started sewing them instead.

I used to love the velcro ones better, because I could take them off to wash (they get dirtier than the rest of the cover, so they get washed more frequently) without having to undo the harness. But now DD3 pulls the velcro ones off and throws them, I'm afraid we're going to lose them.

I'm going to put a few stitches in it so we don't lose them.

Yes that's the order I've seen too. My first classic seat had velcro, then next one had sewn. I would guess they changed due to complaints about kids taking them off, but, like others, I liked that they were easier to remove for washing .. unless you have one of those kids who remove them. ;)

I thought it was interesting that the new generation seats are back to velcro. However, the shoulder pads are also bulkier and I don't like that. As much as I used to think they were a must-have item, I'm not currently using them. I might put them back on this summer, but with more layers and rear facing, I feel like I don't need any obstacles while trying to get her in the seat and out of the cold quickly while straightening her clothes and fleece jacket to remove any bulk (folds of fabric) from under the straps.

Depends on kid age. Velcro for infants who spit up on them, I guess sewn for older who take them off. Honestly, I don't like the Britax pads (at least the older ones, haven't really looked at the new ones closely). They are stiff and tiny. I have bought some inexpensive ones that wrap completely around and velcro (hard to explain) and I don't know that my older kids even realized that they could pull them off. I know, I know, I shouldn't add anything that didn't come with the seat. Just my personal judgement that since the ones I replaced them with were thinner and softer, and these serve no realy safety purpose, they were probably just fine...

I have had both... prefer the sewn for 1 reason...

Did you know that they can fly??? DD3 showed me how when she un-velcroed hers and chucked it out the window on the highway...

We have 2 covers. I perfer our sewn ones. The take the velco ones off all the time. We haven't used that cover for quiet a while. But if we did I would sew them. To afraid of loosing them.
