LADIES ONLY!! Endometrial Polyps anyone?

Title says it all. I had a pelvic ultrasound last week and today got the results. Anyone had surgery for endometrial polyps? How bad is it? I think its called hysteroscopy.

I was hoping there was no real reason for my irregular cycle and that I would be a candidate for uterine ablation. It sounds like the surgery I need is more intense the the ablation would have been. YUCK! :(

I need to be sure to schedule it right after a car seat check so I have plenty of time to recover before the next one.

Thanks for listening to me whine.

Renee, I had a D&C for endometrial polyps in 2004. They used general anesthesia on me for it, and I was in a bit of pain for several days afterwards. It pretty much felt like I'd given birth again and that my uterus was going to drop out of my body. Unfortunately for me, the procedure didn't really help relieve the bleeding issues, so I use meds now. If the meds hadn't work, my GYN would have done cryo-ablation, another procedure that doesn't always work.

{{{Hugs}}} I hope that the procedure works for you!

I had to look up Endometrial Polyps to see if they were anything like Fibroids. I just went through a Fibroid Embolization to cut off the flow of blood to 4 large fibroids. I found this Benign Uterine Growths extremely helpful with other links for more info. But not the same exact issue.

TBH, if your only symptom is irregular periods with normal lengths (no horrible cramps, heavy bleeding, extreme food cravings, PAIN in your back or during sex), it might be best to leave well enough alone. There's no guarantee that this would regulate your period and it could make symptoms worse if they grow back, which many times they're likely.

You have to go with your gut after doing your own research. Many doctors LOVE to try out procedures OR they prefer old fashioned drastic tactics that lack consideration of the individual's feelings. Right now, medicine is still playing around with women's anatomy. It's improving quickly, but there's still room for wait & see on improvements :)

good luck on figuring out what's best for you

I have 2 small (tiny, actually) polyps that are near my cervix, seen during a hysteroscopy procedure (this was only to VIEW the inside of the uterus, not to take anything out) but my ob/gyn said most likely they will never become troublesome because unlike GI polyps, they don't as a rule turn malignant- and it was my choice whether or not to do anything. Since general anesthesia would be needed, and I am finished having kids, and my only symptom was mid cycle spotting- I decided to wait and see. Since then my symptoms stopped:confused:
