A Keyfit 22 that you know has never been in an accident (from hubbys boss) I know I just posted earlier that we decided on the Keyfit 30 but we just got the offer from his boss for the whole Chicco travel system with an extra base, for free of course. Their dd is 2 1/2 so it shouldnt be expired, she will be 3 in June when baby is born...I figue it sounds good, I know we would end up having to buy the seat prob anyway since I doubt anyone will buy it off the registry...prob get new straps though

Do you know if they have flown with it and checked it as luggage? I wouldn't do that myself and I would not feel comfortable using a seat that has been checked. New straps would be a must. Are you sure that they didn't install it using a seat belt and LATCH at the same time? I would be wary of using a seat after it was treated like that. If you are sure that the seat was not in an accident, misused, or mistreated then I would be okay with it but if you're not sure about any of those things then it's probably best not to.

I know they flew with it but it was used on the plane, not checked. They have def not been in any accidents, and i know the wife is pretty car seat savvy and wouldt install it wrong. Dh grew up with his boss and the guys brother is his best friend...

I'd get it and order new straps (unless you can see if they've never been washed improperly.

But it's someone you know, so I would assume they'd be honest about the history.
