How do you replace the headwings on the XTSL?

SKJP sent me the new style headwings for my XTSL, which I think will work much better for Levi (his back hurts where his shoulders touch the bottom of the headwing, which also keeps shoving them too high up)

But I cant figure out how to take the old ones off and put the new ones on! I havent taken anything apart because I dont want to mess it up.

Is there directions somewhere?

Flip the seat over and on the back you can see the well where the wings are attaches by bolt and nut. If you slide the wings up/down you can see it move.

Take the nut off with a wrench. The put the new wings on.

Two questions:

1. There are new headwings?

And

2. You're supposed to be able to replace them yourself?

We're not just talking foam here, but the actual wings with the plastic that slide up and down?

Oh, and I totally want the new headwings. I'd go back to using my Flora XTSL over my FR85!

Yes, but that appears to be XT vs XTSL, and the OP of this thread said she got new wings for her XTSL. Maybe that was a typo? Or perhaps I'm just confused.

In any case, am I the only one who is uncomfortable with the idea of people removing/replacing headwings?

ETA: Duh, and I quoted the wrong response. Sorry. :p

I'd imagine it's the same as this right here :) : http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=155750

This. Its the whole headwing piece, foam glued to plastic.

My pic in post 15.

Apparantly some XTSL's have the 'old' headwings and some have the 'new', but we havent yet figured out what the 'cut off date' is for when they switched styles. My seats have DOMs of 10/09 and 11/09 and both have the older headwings. The XT's I guess have the 'old' headwings... but Im not 100% sure on that, I guess they could have updated those too?

I complained to SKJP (I got Russ actually) b/c ds's headwings riding up and bugging his upper back, and they sent the new ones. I didnt realize they were a different style until I saw the above post and went and checked. But I think the new ones will work better because of the way the bottom scoops out. It also looks like it goes lower.

I think I should call and double check to make sure its OK for me to mess with them, I really dont want to compromise the seat in any way and I might wait until next week when my dad is back in town so I can see if he has the right tool.

ETA: in my siggy pic, the headwings are all the way down, but if we ride around for more than 10min, they end up riding up 3-4", putting the bottom of the headwing closer to his eye level, which is too high! I guess because he is a funny height, his shoulders are just a tiny bit above the 3rd slot, but he has a really big head!

SK sent new wings for my XT and it's the newer version. I replaced them just like the OP said (had DH remove the nuts and bolts, install new wings and replace nuts and bolts). It's not very easy to do so you'll probably need someone to help you. I held the wings in place while DH removed/replaced the nuts and bolts.
