wording in dorel manuals

I was just reading through the scenera manual again, and noticed some strange wording.

Rear-facing Position:
Less than one year old and between 2.3-16 kg (5-35 lbs.) and48-81cm (19-32 inches) tall. Note: Infants one year old or less must be rearfacing.

Forward-facing position:
Over one year old and between 10-18 kg (22-40lbs.) and 74-102 cm (29-40 inches) tall. Note: Children must be 1 year old or older for forward facing position.

So reading this, one would assume you must turn your kid on their first birthday right? The AOE manual says the exact same thing. It makes no mention that children over one year can still be rearfacing and implies that they have to face forward over one year. WTF! Who wrote this thing?

It's actually a mandatory writing; it's in all manuals.

Confusing and annoying, yes. And it definitely implies the wrong thing, unfortunately.

I totally thaught that at 12mo and 20lbs I had to turn my kids after reading that. Thankfully I found this site and the impotance of rer facing video on youtube.

The labels put on car seats are confusing, but that wording doesn't strike me as confusing at all.

It says kids under 1 must be rear-facing. Children must be one year or older for FF.

It doesn't say they have to FF at one year, just that they can't FF until then.

It's the first part "Rear facing : less than one year" that bugs me. If they left out those first few words it would be a lot more clear.
