Would this make a difference, coat safety?

CAN you push all the puff down? I think it does work with a down coat, but if that were an option for regular coats I would think we would see recommendations to push all the puff down and then tighten instead of avoiding wearing them in the car seat?

I don't think it's really possible to push all the puffiness down, because children's bodies are not solid like a table or a floor. There will always be some "give" left.

Also, it's is not just the FRONT of the coat that is puffy, but in the back as well, and that the back of the car seat is padded, too. Not rigid.

No, it doesn't make a difference. It's impossible to get ALL the bulk removed, and if you tighten the straps down that tight, the child is going to be miserable.

Thanks, that's what I thought. This was because of a facebook discussion. I don't do coats in the car-seats, but a lady on my facebook said it was fine because she pushes all the puff down.

Thanks, unfortunately I don't think she will listen. They think CPSTs are people who say "I'm doing it right and you're not! nananananana!"
She thinks since it passed the pinch test with the coat on that it is safe and she also says that there is no slack once she takes the jacket off and puts the child back in.
