I think it depends on the situation. I don't think it can be a blanket statement.

For a squirmy 4 year old on a trip, yes it's safer because it acts as a 5 point harness and a booster wouldn't be able to be used properly

For a mature 6 year old who has the option of a high back booster that can be used properly, I don't see how it would be safer.

It's great for travel, carpool situations, tight 3 across as long as there is head support, times when there may be lap belt only.

But overall, I think it's basically "just" a 5 point harness seat that is portable, so not necessarily safer than a properly used booster depending on the situation.

I think they are about $120 for a small and $140 for a large. That was what I could find when I was thinking of getting one for a trip.

Here is their website with all the specs: http://safetrafficsystem.com/

There are 2 sizes. The small can be used as small as age 3 and 30 lbs and 34 inches, although how well it fits does depend some on the build of the child. The small goes up to 60 lbs. The large goes from 50-80 lbs.

You have to use a top tether if you only have a lap belt and for the large from 60-80 lbs, it require a different dual tether.

One nice thing is that these never expire!

That is a cool option... Especially if you are a frequent traveler! Thanks for the link and the information!

No problem, glad to help out. :)

It is cool - if our primary place to travel wasn't my parents' house where DD already had a seat, I'd probably get one since we do end up traveling by plane no less than 3 times a year.

As has been discussed here many times, there is no evidence that a certain type of restraint is "safer". Boosters, harnesses, and vests are all very safe when used properly.

I just wanted to second this statement that it depends on the build of the child. We used one on our trip and my 4 year old who was mid 30s in weight (~36 pounds if I recall correctly) was barely big enough for it (according to a tech on here :)). I had to make it as tight as I could for her, but she is slim and tall and not average build. It was really nice to fly with and well worth the money to me to only have to bring one car seat (for DD2) on the plane. However, although it was much easier to fly with, I found it less convenient to use in the car because it had more steps (or if I took the shortcut of not uninstalling it, it was harder to get the crotch strap under her). For that reason, I personally wouldn't want to use it when not traveling. I think they were $120, but I got a small coupon code discount when I bought mine at comfort1st. Not much off, but everything helps. I hope this helps!

Thanks it does help me better understand this particular restraints role. Thanks so much!
