We are expecting a baby in a few months and are going to need a different vehicle.
This will be our 7th.
Our current vehicle is an 8 passenger 97 Voyager. We recently moved to the country and are thinking we will probably need 4wd. We live on a private dead end road and the snowplows don't run out here.
Our kids are:
9yo FF in Radian
7yo FF in Radian
6yo FF in Radian
4yo FF in Evenflo Chase Booster (this one expires in Dec. 2011)
3yo FF in Scenera (too tall and too heavy for RF)
15 mo RF in Compass I-420 ( she is small for her age, so we just left her in an infant seat. She will need to be moved, before this baby comes.)
We were thinking of putting the 9yo in the center front of a Suburban or Excursion in a Radian. Is this possible? If we do this should we disarm the airbags? (my FIL would do this if we asked him to.)
I am looking for vehicle suggestions as well as car seat suggestions. We plan on keeping what we have for now, but the 3yo will probably outgrow the Scenera in 6 months, and the 15 month old will need to move up to a toddler seat. The Chase booster will expire at the end of this year.
Right now, my 9yo, 6yo and 3yo sit in the back. They can all squeeze behind the 3-passenger middle bench in the Voyager to get back there. I am hoping to find another vehicle that they can squeeze into the back without having to remove a car seat and reinstall every time.
Is it a bad idea to consider a travel harness for the 9 yo and have him sit in the middle row on the part that we could fold forward to access the rear seats? Are the harnesses safe and are they more difficult to get right than a car seat? If we did this the 7yo would be up front in the middle. (she actually outweighs the 9yo by a pound!)
I don't really want a big passenger van. I don't like the way they handle. If anyone has vehicle/car seat suggestions, I'd definitely appreciate them.
(we are looking for a used vehicle, preferably under $8K.)
Thanks!
