Texas Child Passenger Safety Webpage

I came across the Texas Public Safety Webpage for Child Passenger Safety last night and was pleasantly surprised to see the NHTSA best practices guidance listed. It was also great to see the final comment of the table talking about the phases say
Children are better protected the longer they can stay in each phase. Keep children in each seat up to the maximum age/weight/height limits before moving to the next phase.

The FAQ associated with the webpage is a 6 page .pdf and is very well written with best practices in mind.

I wish all the states had something similar on their CPS pages...It would be great to be able to point a parent to something like this.

That's great! You're right though, it's more the exception than the norm. Most of them seem written to fulfill the requirements of the law and nothing more. It makes me not want to refer parents to the state sites.

Man it would be nice if our pediatrician's office handed this out instead of the AAP handout on car seats from 1996 that they are currently handing out

Did you hear about the CO senator who backs all these safety bills/laws like trying to get it a first offense (you can be pulled over and ticketed for) to have unbuckled passengers in your car...anyway she was just in an accident that was her fault here in TX. She was driving with her son and his two children (aged 3 and 6 I think) and crossed the median into another SUV killing the pregnant mom in the other vehicle. Guess what...in the senators vehicle she was the only one wearing a seatbelt..neither of her grandsons were buckled! UGH WTF?!?!?!

Yep, and her son and two grandchildren were all ejected from the vehicle too. Ironically, only the son is still in the hospital. I feel so horrible for the other family, the mom that was killed was pregnant. They delivered the baby via C-section but the mom couldnt be saved. Baby is in critical condition. Shame on her!
