Question Install of Britax Blvd 70 (2010)

I had my new Britax Blvd installed today. We went to a car seat tech and he installed it and insured that it had a good fit.
Once I got home and started reading my manual, I discovered the "lock-offs" and realized that he did not use a lock-off when installing with a lap-shoulder belt. He also said that using the tether strap was not necessary.

(The seat is rear-facing in the center seat for 8 month old, 17.5 pounds, 28")

So, I understand that the tether strap may not be required but according to the manual, it is "recommended... at all times".
Since concluding my reading of the manual, I have gone back to my car and re installed using the lock-off. Do I need to use the tether? I saw in another thread that the seat is still very safe as is, without the tether being anchored down.

***According to the manual (page 25), the tether would be in position 1 for the rear facing seat for my car. (A 2009 Toyota Corolla)***

:thanx!:

He installed it without showing you how? Is he a real CPST? because a CPST will install it, then show you how to install it, then have you to install it yourself because we are here to help you learn how to install it.

I looked in the manual.. gotta give me time :D

The lockoffs are just like locking clips.. they lock the belt pre-crash without using the locking retractor.. Need to look in your car manual but I'm pretty sure you have switchable retractors which means you can just install the seat with the belt and pull out the shoulder part all the way out and it will automatically switch over to automatic locking (ALR) and tighten up...

If you want to use the lockoffs, don't lock the shoulder belt portion and just tighten up and put them through the lockoffs.

Either one is fine.

It is recommended to use the tether since it will improve the stability of your seat but not required.

That is the Australian method which is a pain in the butt.. It will be hard to put ur baby in if there is something above their head.. I suggest do the #3 position which is the Swedish method.

Here's a video that should help:

http://www.youtube.com/user/CarSeatSite#p/u/12/2upADev-UrM

You should have a d-ring that came with the seat.. then wrap around the d-ring to the front seat track or some anchor point then hook the tether strap on the d-ring and tighten it up and you are good to go...

Good luck!

Thanks for your help...
We basically installed it together.
Yes, as far as I know he is a real CPST. I found him at http://www.nhtsa.gov/

Thanks for the video. I watched it and one other video from the same person. I will be installing it with the tether once my little one goes down for another nap.

I really appreciate the help!

Double check your manual.

While they've changed their mind once or twice, I believe Britax wants users to ONLY use their lock offs and not lock the vehicle seat belt.
