Is Safe-Cell worth buying a new Marathon?

I have a Marathon in storage right now that I had used with my DS up until spring of 2010. I was planning on using it with this little bug once the weather warmed up - I find it easier to take her to and from the car if she's covered in the infant seat.

After I had her Britax released the safe-cell technology and I'm wondering if there is a 'real' advantage to it versus the previous generation of Marathons. Is it worth my money to buy a newer version of the same seat? Is it beneficial primarily in RF or FF seating?

Thanks!

Welcome to c-s.org :hello:

For me the 'benefits' of buying the new one over the 'old' one is more than the safe-cell technology. Things like higher rf weight limit (instead of 30 lbs), 1" above head rf height limit (instead of 32" on the old one), lower base, no thread harness, etc. But there are also 'cons' with the new one, so it's down to what features you can do without if you are to keep the old one.

Hi there,
Personally, I think your decision depends on how long you intend to RF your DD. If you intend to ERF, there are more "roomier" RF options available that also RF to higher weight limits than the new Marathons. If the one you have isn't expired, I would just use it because its still undergone stringent testing and is safe. When that seat gets to either the expiration or RF limits, then look at whats available.

Unfortunately, the covers aren't interchangable with the new platform. They are very different looking seats.

HTH!

I like the way the MA are like a recliner in the car for the little guys, I'd use it until he maxed out the RF limit & then look at getting him a new seat. Then, you'll know if you will get more RF time out of a new one, or if you need to look at other options, or if you are going to FF then anyway, you may as well buy a FF only seat...

My ODS is RF in a RN & he's 4, he would not fit RF in the new MA, his torso is too long. My friend's almost 3YO is almost too long to RF in the new MA, so she'd need something else to RF beyond 3yo.
