Favorite ways to entertain a baby in a carseat on a plane.

We are taking my just 1 year old on a plane and got her a seat for the first time. We will take her KF30 on the plane for her.

So, what are your favorite ways to keep them entertained. (She has flown as a lap baby in the past - I know, bad, hence the seat this time.)

My daughter is a little bit older (2 yrs)...but here are some of the things that were a hit when we flew recently:

Stickers--I just handed them to her individually and let her put them everywhere
Ipod Touch loaded with kid shows like Sesame Street (I used kid-sized headphones)
Small picture books...especially ones with things she could do, like opening flaps or touching different textures
Small Magna Doodle
Finger Puppets (she liked to put them on, and loved for us to put on "shows")
Snacks

Mine was a bit younger when we flew. I picked up a small new toy especially for the flight and brought a couple other favorites plus two books and my Nintendo DS, as he likes to watch the screen. I also brought toy links and clipped the ones that could be together so I wasn't trying to retrieve thrown things from under my seat.

Something brand new would be good. Toys she's never played with. Do you have a portable DVD player? A movie she's never seen would be a good distraction as well. Books that have pop-ups or textures she could touch would be fun too.

just putting in my experience...

My DD always fell asleep in her car seat as soon as we get in the air.

I'd have this bag full of stuff, toys and snacks, to keep her happy and it wasnt needed lol

but i'd bring picture books and new things and when all else fails... the skymall magazine in the seat back pocket ;)

My son seemed to fall asleep as the plane was descending! I'd much rather he slept during the flight!

Stickers held the most interest
pipe cleaners
favorite books
matchbox cars (he did not get this regularly but loved them on the trip)
stuffed animal
playsilks in a container he could take them out/put them back in (in the future, I'd tie them together so it was not so hard to recover them afterward)
several snacks

At that age, DD always fell fast asleep as soon as she heard the engines. I've heard post it notes keep little ones amused as well.

When I traveled on an airplane with an 11 month old, he slept most of the way there. On the way back, he played with small toys, played with my cellphone (that was turned off), watched some things on a DVD player, etc. The mom also bought a new toy for him so it was something exciting and kept him engaged longer than a toy that he had already played with a million times before.

For our long flight here I had a bunch of stuff for DS.

Stickers
SNACKS! :)
A "Quiet Time" book (I actually had this for a previous flight and kept it as a surprise for him and since it was new it got me at least 5-10 minutes of entertainment. Lol.)
Anything new - I had 2 new books (one with flaps to open which he likes) and a new toy truck.
Crayons and a new coloring book.

DS only ever seems to fall asleep as we're decending. :) So I have to keep him pretty occupied. :)
