Which car seat would be the hardest for a toddler to get out of? I know that the Maestro I was messing with in Target had a chest clip that was really hard to get undone. Do any of the Evenflo convertibles use that chest clip? My 2yo niece has been undoing the chest clip on her Radian. My sister has been trying positive reinforcement which worked for a short time before she started up again. Then spanking, but IDK how that was going. She accidentally left her Radian in our mom's car and had to use her Regent yesterday. She was almost home when her dd was standing right behind the middle console. She undid everything, chest clip and crotch buckle. She wants to keep her rfing to at least 3 but right now anything would be safer than what is going on. Sis thinks that if she couldn't get the chest clip undone, she wouldn't be able to get to the crotch buckle. Maybe. Any ideas?

One option that may work is to use the coat trick, where you buckle this child in with the coat open, then zip it up over the harness.

Another that may work is to put the hard side of a piece of stick on velcro on the places where you press to open.

Positive reinforcement may work, and also maybe a few short trips designed just for working on that, where all focus could be on that, with no real destination, or possibly a destination desired by said child, if child stays buckled up.

Hope some of those ideas help!

:yeahthat: or a button up shirt if he is good with zippers

or duct tape, lol jk but I think positive reinforcement and some practice runs could help if he figures out the buttons or how to do it through the shirt

My EFTA is hard to get the chest clip undone. My 8yo can't even do it (to help me by getting the baby out).

I do agree though, the coat trick works good. You can always put a safety pin under the zipper if the kid knows how to unzip. Or the button-up shirt.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't mean to shoot anyone down, but this girl can get out of a car seat entirely. She can certainly undo snaps, buttons, and zippers!! She undresses herself and redresses herself several times a day. She's a busy little girl. And she did the positive reinforcement, which worked for a while, and I'll suggest she do it again, maybe even after she stops getting out. I'll have my sister check out the CA though. I didn't check the chest clip on that one. Not sure why because I was looking at it. I even put the headrest all the way up, just didn't unbuckle anything!! But she is willing to buy a different seat if it will keep her dd safe. Obviously one she can't unbuckle.

I'll have her look at the EFTA too. Thanks. Oooh....a diaper pin under the zipper. Good idea!! I'll run that past her too. Much cheaper than a new seat!!

Tighten the harness more? Its probably tight enough but I know if the belt is really really tight on me I can't move at all.
