what are the differences. iirc, someone said that they could get a more upright install with the old one. Is that true?

The new boot has channels in it for the anti-skid strips (on 9/08 and newer seats) and is narrower in the toe area. The boots are the same angle, but I guess the different shape plus vehicle contours allows some people to get a more upright install. Some people find the old boot gives a more upright install.

Ok, I'll see if I can borrow a friend's old style one and see if it makes a difference. I only need it a touch more upright to work in the center of my car. Thanks!
