True Fit issues

I think that I once read a thread about this, and now I'm having the same problem. My DD keeps crying if we ever put her in her TF for long periods of time(1 hour+). Because the seat is a spare in DH's truck, the only time we ever use it is for long drives. She always says that her bum hurts, her bum hurts. When I take her out of the seat, he entire butt is bright red. I assume this is due to a lack of padding and all the weight being directly concentrated right on one spot. Is there any way to fix this? I feel so bad everytime because I know it must really hurt if her whole butt shows the marks.

On long drives I have tucked a prefold (diaper) behind Nick's bum and lower back, just for a tiny bit of extra padding without too much bulk. You could try changing the install angle too so that she is not having all of the weight put on to that area. She may need to be a bit more upright to take the pressure off her tail bone. Just a guess.

What angle do you have it at (a rough estimate ...) ?

The True Fit doesn't allow you to go more upright than 30* EDIT - I mean 35*, but I would try to go a bit more upright (if you can). Older kids don't have to be at the 45*.

I thought the TF was only 35* ???

Hi, I'm not much of a carseat guru (in fact, I'm new to this site and could spend hours browsing), but I am a nurse with years of experience. It sounds like your daughter has a lot of pressure on one area if she's in the seat for longer times...and the downside of a carseat, she can't shift her weight too much 'cause she's strapped in. My concern on longer trips would actually be diminished blood supply to the area and the potential for the beginnings of a pressure ulcer. We reposition immobile patients frequently to try and prevent pressure ulcers due to having pressure on the same area for longer periods. Altering the angle of the seat to allow her weight to be distributed over a larger, less bony area (buttocks versus tailbone or sacrum) would be helpful, but if it doesn't make a difference, I would consider stopping often to let her get out of the seat and move around, or getting a different seat entirely.

The seat is all the way up at about 35 degrees. I figured that maybe it was being too upright that was making it worse, because she is sitting more straight up. Should I try making the seat less upright?
