devil's advocate- checking carseats

Thanks for your advice...
Finn we HAD to check Seth's last time. Sadly the airlines here operate on a totally different law. River was FF when we flew and she was 8m old, since rear-facing seats were not allowed.
So you just have to do the best you can (hence why I use clothes, diapers, bubble wrap etc..) and pray your seat makes it okay....

I know that you should never check seats, etc. but there is cases where you just don't have a choice. International airlines have way stricter policies and a sometimes will not allow carseats. Obviously you try and avoid this if you can, but I personally am not going to skip a trip because they won't allow my carseats on board. When we flew to Slovakia in the summer, I did my research before hand and had proof from their website(Austrian)that I was allowed to bring my seat on board. The resistance I got at the gate was very strong. I had to pull out all of my papers at the gate and then once again on board to prove I could have the seat. Had it been a different airline, or if I hadn't had proof with me, I'm certain I would have been forced to check the seat. I wouldn't miss my holiday over it, however. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

REally, the RSTV would be perfect for your situation.

Yeah now lies the issue of money to fund an RSTV and telling the hubby I want it. LOL.

I am sure it would be perfect but we are leaving this summer so I doubt we will be flying anymore before then. Once in the states we probably won't fly at all and just drive everywhere so I have no argument with dh.

Can you at least gate-check them?

I've been forced to check car seats as luggage by foreign companies. Ryan Air, for example, doesn't allow any car seats in the cabin and you can't gate-check them.

No we can't gate check anything :( I just wrap the seats up and hope they'll be ok, not much else I can do really :shrug-shoulders:
