In Search Of Old-school Battleship

Ds got completely hooked on this when we were visiting my il's last week. I wanted to get it for him for Christmas, but it seems they've changed the format a bit.

Does anyone have an unloved set with all of the ships and most of the pegs?

when we were looking a few months back the only option we came up with was the travel sized one. The larger ones came in GI Joe and Lego create/build ones only.

I just bought an original style one last week for my mom. Either Target or Walmart, I can't remember which one. It was $7-10.

I also haven't been able to find an old school Battleship. The only version I can find is [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Milton-Bradley-14674-Battleship/dp/B001FVSZAK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291356419&sr=8-1"]this one[/ame], which gets bad reviews, primarily for being way too flimsy.

Luckily dh and dd were at Goodwill recently looking for a basic chess set, and they found a 1990s version of Battleship, with all the pieces (or, at least enough pegs to have a complete game, I'm sure there are a few missing).

It is also really easy to just print up your own grid and do the game on paper. We've done that and played 4 person battleship which sounds difficult but it was actually fun! lol We played so that someone said a coordinate and then each other player said hit or miss.

I have one. It's not identical to the one I had as a kid, but it's not the newer flimsy version either. Other than the graphics, I really don't notice any difference. It's got the 2 individual hard shell boards that you flip open, the gray boats and red and white pegs. The pegs go on the top and on the bottom where the boats are - is that the one you're looking for?

The girls asked for the U Build It one for Christmas and we got it, but I'm not sure if they'll like it as much as the original one. There is a board game store in the mall near us and I know they have about 5 different versions of Battleship in different themes. They're all like the original version with the two boards, boats and pegs, not the stand up flimsy like the new ones at TRU and Target. I have all of the pegs and boats, box is even in perfect shape, nothing is missing.

Let me see if Matt is willing to part with it. I really don't care. If they don't like the U Build It one, I can replace it with one of the ones at the local board game store. They have a cool camo military looking one that I wouldn't mind having an excuse to buy.
