Not sure how many guys post here, but I didn't see a gender requirement, so hey. :)

A little bit about my family:

We live in Missouri, right outside Fort Leonard Wood. I work for the federal government as an IT specialist; plus I do IT work on the side. I'm also pursuing my Bachelor's degree in MIS (management information systems), mainly to get that official document backing up my 15 years of experience. ;) I'm also a Sergeant in the Army Reserves - I'm a combat engineer (I blow stuff up) and an IT systems analyst, and am instructor qualified.

My wife is an RN BSN, has been for about 10 years or so; and she's a diabetic educator for the hospital in Rolla. She'll be going up for her CDE (certified diabetic educator) in April or so of next year. She's taught in college as well.

Our son, Ethan, is 2 years 3 months old, and is big and healthy. He's about 38 or so lbs. and about the same height. Here's a recent picture of him with his coffee (yes, coffee - he tends towards hyperactivity, and it calms him down):

Obviously we're concerned about safety; I never claim to be an expert at anything, since one can ALWAYS learn more. I WILL say, however, that very rarely do I get involved with a subject or project without researching it from every angle. Thus the reason I'm here. :)

Also...a funny video we took at 6 months old of my son. We're contemplating sending it in to AFV. :)

Y'know, I'm actually pretty darn interested in that. There is a distinct lack of knowledge in this area regarding car seats and correct installation; Ford (and other manufacturers) refer you to the local CPS tech (of which there ARE none that I know of around here) OR to the local fire department.

If they knew the local fire department around here, they wouldn't recommend it. :p

Anyways, where can I go to get information on these classes in Camdenton? If there're none available right now I can schedule them for the future. I don't like not having any local options available; and in the absence of information I'd prefer to become knowledgeable on the subject myself. :)

And for the classes --

You go to this website, then...

- Click on "Find a Course" on the right hand side of the page.
- Put in your state, mark the "Course Type" as "Certification".
- Hit "Submit".

Viola. It will bring up classes local to you. There may or may not be classes available. They are usually towards the beginning of the summer, however, you may get lucky still. :)

Classes are 4 days long, the last day you have to do a public car seat check event. You have to pass (multiple choice) quizzes, installation scenarios, and the check event. Then if you pass, you're certified.

If a course shows up as "Controlled Course", this means that it is reserved for nurses, fire departments, EMS, etc. Sometimes if there are extra seats, they will let you in. Send the lead instructor (should be listed) an email and explain yourself and how passionate you are, and they may be willing to let you in. I know a few techs from here have taken the "controlled course".

Didn't realize they were 4 days long; so I'll have to hold off for a few on that one, as I simply don't have the time right now. This being said, it is definitely something I want to do, if for no other reason than I can help others around here. :) The testing shouldn't be a big deal.

Tell them I said 'Congrats.' We have a lot of fun messing with the recruits sometimes; we'll occasionally go to Burger King, pick up a Value Meal, and then go eat them in full sight of the recruits, making quite a bit of noise as we do so.

Hola!:)

I'm thinking about doing the classes and getting certified too. Just have to wait until I can leave Tristan for more than 2 hours at a time (he won't take a bottle), and then find suitable childcare for that length of time. :D

Not sure if this helps you out any, but my class was a Thursday, Friday one week, then Thursday Friday the following week. The last day was a regular car seat check and we weren't there all day.

And also, my class was supposed to be from 8am - 5pm, and we were let out around 3pm everyday (so the first three days). The last day (the check event) we were out around 1pm or so.

Actually that does help; though it's just the time of year. I've got management and business law college classes tomorrow/Tuesday evening; then I have a 4-day Army Reserve function. At the same time I work 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. 5 days a week, am helping to plan our church's Christmas deal, plus I'm helping my wife with stuff related to her work.

You get the idea. :) After the new year will be a better time.

Welcome! I won't flame you for the coffee because I was a coffee drinker as a child. We have lots of pictures like that with me. Your child is beautiful! He looks really tall for just over 2 years old!

welcome! no flames here either for the coffee because I actually had the opportunity during my recent externship for school to work with someone who every day had to drink coffee throughout it or she was so hyper that we were all fixing her coffee and getting her some... her son has adhd and I honestly think it's similar with adhd meds being stimulants and yet calming the brain... coffee is the stimulant that works for her and hey, it's probably safer than most prescription ones.
