I have been searching for a new seat 4 my 4 year old who has outgrown his convertible seat. He weighs 41 pds. and 41 inches tall. I would like to keep him in the 5 pt harness as long as possible. We tried the Graco-But his shoulders seem to be a little wide so he is not too comfortable. I researched the Britax and was very happy with this seat as well. When we finally decided to take a trip to the store to purchase my husband noticed the Recaro.. Being a huge race car fan.. He was drawn to this seat because there history making racing seats. I have not heard very much about the seat, but I do like what I have read from the actual recaro website.... Does anyone know if there is someplace I can find out the actually safety testing on this seat.. It is pricier than the Britax and the GRACO. I just want to see if it makes sense to spend that kind of money on a seat.. BUT the most important thing is my CHILDS SAFETY. Thanks so much

Welcome.

There are no safety ratings. Whichever seat works better for your son, for your car, and for your budget is the perfect seat for you.

I can tell you that the Frontier 85's top slots are 2" taller than the Recaro's, which means it'll last about two more years harnessed. However, the top weight is five pounds lower than the Recaro (85 versus 90 pounds, both are rather unreasonable for most kids). The Frontier also turns into a taller booster than the Recaro.

However, it's not necessary to harness forever, just until your son is able to sit properly in a high back booster all the time. For most kids this is between five and six years old. Some seven year olds still need a harness. The Frontier would guarantee you'd get to mature booster age, the Recaro would very likely get you there as well.

Have your son sit in both of them, adjust them up so you can see how much growing room he has in both harness and booster modes, if possible take them out to your car and install them, and see which everyone likes better.
