Offer advice to a friend

My friend is having baby #3. Her first is 5.5 years old so his snug ride has expired. My guess is that she is buying or has bought a new seat since this is her first girl but I'm not surex. Would you offer unsolicited advice shout the expired seat? Her shower was today and I didn't see a seat there and there is no seat on her registry.

I might say, "Oh, it just occurred to me. If you still have his infant seat I'd be happy to recycle it for you since it's probably expired. Let me know if you want me to pick it up for you!"

Otherwise, no. Wait to see what's actually happening first.

I just asked my friend what she was going to do for a car seat. Her DS was almost 6y when the new baby was born so I knew it was going to be expired. But I also knew that she was "done" about 4 or 5 years ago so she had passed along most of her baby stuff.

My friend said she was getting an infant seat from a friend. I send her the used car seat checklist so she could double check it and make sure there were no recalls on the seat.

I never put things over $100 on my registry nor did I ever want anyone to buy them for me...so I made all the big purchases myself. Could this be the case?

Maybe offer to get her in touch with a tech to install her infant seat. Or ask if the baby is going straight into a convertible? Or mention any great deals you have seen on such and such seat? Basically anything to open the conversation up without going directly to the expired seat issue.

ETA: You are a tech...Duh.

The way I've approached it is to say something like "I bet you're excited to buy one of those cute pink girly car seats for this baby. Maybe I could go with you, I love that kind of thing." For a college couple at church that recently had a baby, I asked her what she was doing for a car seat and offered to help her if she was confused. She was quite knowledgeable. She took a class at a local hospital.
