Sienna seatback broke

I'm guessing this belongs here, because it's about the car, not a carseat.

On the back of the 2nd row Sienna seats is a platic tray. So, it can be used when the seat is folded flat (not flipped up). It broke today. My knee hit the wrong spot, and it broke. Getting it fixed is not optional because now it's sharp and sticking up.

This isn't something that should be replaced under warranty? I wasn't doing jumping jacks, it was just normal use.

I called 1 dealership and the guy seemed snippy but said warranty doesn't usually cover broken things.

I swung by another dealer, and it's $135 just for the part, plus tax and labor. grrr.

How many miles are on it and what does your warranty say? If it's under warranty, it should be covered I would think. (Um, hello- it shouldn't break that easily. I am familiar with the piece you are talking about, had an 07 sienna for a while.)

Good luck dealing with them. Maybe try junkyards or CL for the part, then just have to pay for labor to put it in?

I want to say around 50,000 miles? It's almost 3yrs old (end of Nov), and I know I put more than the average (is it 12,000/yr?) mileage. I don't know what my warranty says  Would that be with the owner's manual, and all the booklets, or with the papers I signed? I'll have to go have a look in my file.

Around here, pretty standard is 3years/36,000 miles, whichever comes first. That stinks that it broke - I will be careful with mine!

I know my warranty excludes "cosmetic" things, and I don't know if they'd consider that cosmetic or not. But, I do think you're probably out of warranty anyways. Maybe you can find a new captain's chair at a junkyard for cheaper than replacing that one part?

Ugh, our kid once stepped on a cup holder it was $80 just for the part! Luckily with that piece, my husband looked at it and it was just an unscrew-rescrew thing. Is there any chance you can do the work yourself, and find the piece on a junked car? (Unfortunately our little cubby things up front are missing their doors, because they fell off after years of use. And because they're part of the frame of the cd player it would be several hundred to replace, not including labor! We opted to just forget it.)
