yes, but I think most people passed it over because the cover options were so horrendous, and the price was more than the AO, which uninformed families see as such a great deal.

I agree about the covers. I would have bought one if it wasn't for that scratchy black cover they all had. I really liked the circus dots but they didn't make hardly any of those and the ones they did sold for $219. For that price I can buy a marathon and have whatever cover I want.

So have we officially confirmed that they have been discontinued?

I noticed on the review thread that someone got one that was manufactured in March of 2007.

The one I got, has a red/black cover. It's DOM was March 2007 (I got it last week). (the 13th, IIRC, It's in the car). ETA: The cover is probably less than what Britax customers are used to, but I kinda like the feel of it. It's different than the Scenera I'm used to, I'll tell you that.)

Today, I don't mind it. Day before yesterday I hated it. lol

It was on sale at albeebaby for 129, I got it from BabyUniverse for 139.

It's a decent seat. For the price of one Marathon, you can get two FPSVD's.

Good get! :) I bought a FPSVD in February from albeebaby and the DOM was 7/2006, so I thought they must have stopped making them. I'm going to try to talk my nephew into buying one for his DD so she can stay in a 5-pt. harness longer. Hope you enjoy your new FPSVD! I love this seat -- it's so light, yet substantial, and easy to install, that it makes me overlook the cover! :) (I have the black/taupe one--sort of wish I'd gotten the red one.) ;)

What do you not like about the tan/black cover? Whats the difference between it and the red/black cover?

Whats the difference between it and the red/black cover?

I like the "look" of the red/black cover--sporty and fun. I like the black/tan (or taupe), too, but...the tan/taupe part has sort of a reptile-skin type pattern to it, and it seems slicker than the black material (some issues with his head falling forward when he's asleep, but mostly in stop & go traffic when I'm braking a lot.) Also I thought the black/tan was a little more "big kid" looking since he was already 3 y.o., and that it would go with the interiors of both our cars (one tan, one gray).

It looks like the red material might be a little softer than the black, but I haven't seen a red/black FPSVD in person.

I love our Red/black covers. I think they are my favorite of all of them. Ours are not scratchy either. I'm not sure what scratchy fabric is. Ours is just regular feeling. Not sure how to describe it. LOL I think it's just smooth.

I have the black/silver one and I think it is more silver than tan
The silver part is kind of slick (reptile-ish is a good description) but I think it will be easy to keep clean. The Circus Dots one was not bad looking (I personally didn't care for it - too bold) but it felt weird, like cheap polyester that would snag easily.

If they would have started with the black/silver and red/black covers and a lower starting price and been available in stores, they would have made a killing.

Maybe if they'd advertise...? lol

I mean, word of mouth can only do so much (but I will admit, that's the way I learned of Britax, when my oldest was an infant. lol. )

I've heard such rave reviews about the previous line of carseats from Fisher Price---it's like they go and make this stellar product--then...they don't tell anyone about it, get all huffy and go "well FINE, we just won't make anymore. SO THERE!" (followed by a foot stomp)

I only got the red/black cover because the other was sold out at the time. lol

tjham is right, if they'd have started at the lower price--they WOULD have made a killing. As it was, most of the folks who would pay the starting MSRP would pony up the extra dough to get all the features of the marathon.

Plus, that circus dots thing was just fugly.
