Phew! One day is over with. We covered a lot of information - the first 4 modules at least. We did hands-on stuff with seatbelts and they picked my (filthy) car as one for the demo (!)
I'm the only person in the class who is "just a mom" and not there because I have to be for my job. Everyone else is a firefighter, cop, nurse or daycare worker - many of them aren't even parents. There are about 25 of us. But I think one woman might drop out. She got called away for 1/2 the day today because she's a cop and the court needed her for one of her cases. She missed a lot, and she has no hands-on experience to fall back on because she doesn't have kids. I wonder how she'll do.
I'm trying to bite my tongue a lot of the time and not jump to answer every question. But I did learn a few things today, despite my know-it-all tendencies
The instructors aren't all that big on extended harnessing and ext. RF. They cover ext. RF because it's in the materials. There are 5 of them, and I think some believe in it more than others. One, in particular, seems fine with the minimum. And another is big on ext. RF, but keeps implying that HWH seats are only for special needs kids.
Tomorrow is our first skills test on seat belt identification. I was nervous about that before today, but I think I have it down now that I've seen all the different types in real life.
