RV and car seats

I have two toddlers, one is almost 3 and the other is a few months over 1. They are both in the large convertible car seats and now face forward in our cars(in the back seat of course). We recently bought a '88 Chevy Bounder motorhome. There are only 3 bucket seats one of which is the driver's and the other is the front passenger seat. How do we safely fit two car seats in correctly?

You don't, unfortunately. You can't put carseats in RVs. The only place you can put a carseat is a forward facing traditionally seatbelted non-airbagged seat (the front passenger). You can use anything else.

Someone will have to follow in the car with the children.

Also - your 1 year old and possibly your 2 year old (depending on his/her size) should still be rear-facing for maximum safety. The American Academy of Pediatrics as well as Child Passenger Safety Technicians recommend rear-facing to the limits of the seat (30-35 pounds). The neckbones in small children are not solid and can allow the spinal cord to stretch too far to the point of breaking in crashes if they are forward-facing.

Take a look at these sites for more information:

Hope that helps and good luck finding a solution to your travel issues.
