augh how bad was this?

My father in law always listens, and always buckles the kids in correctly if they decide to take them some place.

So this weekend they took the kids to a museum which was nice for Keith and I cause we were rearranging the toy room/office we have.

Anyways I buckled Nolan in and then Keiths mom buckled Fiona in, she did it correctly, so I figured she paid attention too (since I would have correct her if she did it wrong)

Anyways I had Nolan in the avenue, and I keep an inch of space between the shell and the front passenger seat, but I forgot to mention it to them..

When they got back from the museum, Nolan has a belly clip, lopsided harness straps, and MIL has pushed her seat way back into the avenue, but Fiona was buckled in correctly to her frontier (I guess MIL buckled Nolan in)

How unsafe was he? I can't shake that.. omg what if, feeling..

the harness was still tight but it was longer on one side and short on the other (he was way more to one side than the other. I was very suprised honestly.. FIL always does it right when load the kids in after a visit and he wants to help out ect..maybe the old age is setting in IDK.

Nothing happened and he was ok. So just breathe, and try to talk with them about how to buckle the kids in properly before they take them anywhere again. If you think it would help maybe show them a crash test video so they understand how important it is. Or write out a checklist so they don't have the excuse of forgetting something.

My stepdad did a similar (but worse) thing a couple of weeks ago. I went to get my dd out of the car and he'd only done up the chest clip  Luckily she was fine, but I still want to cry every time I think of my baby flying down the highway like that.

What ifs will kill you. Really. Take a breath and make sure they know how important it is or don 't let them take them. You need to know they are safe..

sadly, he still came back a lot safer than most kids ride.

I'd take a good breather... and then next time just say... "hey, last time I noticed Nolan wasn't buckled quite right in his seat. I know these things are tough, so do you mind if I show you how it should be?" and take it from there.
