Have you seen the Mythbusters where they talk about plane crashes? That's a real eye opener, too. They showed the drop test, and then 3 of the testers rode in a rig as it was dropped!

I saw it! I couldn't believe they actually used real people in their "crash test".

IIRC, they were trying to disprove the theory that the "head down" crash position was a conspiracy theory by the airlines to actually kill more people (broken neck) than to have to pay disability settlements.

Yes. What was really eye opening was how strong the impact was, even at the reduced drop height. Really drives home how futile it is to try to hold on to a child during a real crash.

Wow, would love to see this episode, do you know what season it's from?

I'd never heard of the conspiracy theory about head down position.. what was the result of their experiments, did head down help or harm?

Brace position was safer than sitting upright. As for the seats, the flight attendant seat safest, followed by first class, then economy.
