My friend is due in February/March with her first child and most likely only child. She said last night that she and her DH were overwhelmed by the whole car seat and stroller thing. I told her that I didn't know anything about strollers(that market has exploded since I had a baby in the house!), but I would love to help with an infant seat.
BUT...my baby is 6 years old  and for an infant seat he used his older brother's seat (who is almost 10 :eek:), so it's been forever since I even looked at infant seats.

So school me, please! My friend is petite--maybe 5' tall, and her DH is tall--over 6', so who knows about baby's size. She's completely open to suggestions though. Not sure if she'll be a babywearer--she's not overly keen on that idea yet, so I'm thinking an infant seat to start.

She drives a 2002 corolla, and he drives a lexus suv thing--a few years old. They are thinking of a new car for her in the next year or so, and would probably go for a subaru. They are frugal folks, but not cheap.

Tell me what's out there so I can do some research before we hit the stores. We now have a Buy buy baby, as well as BBRUS, so we have a few b&m options.

Thanks much!

It depends. If she wants a 22# rated version or 30,32,33,35# Also some have better infant support others have anti rebound bars. A 5pt harness is preferable.

I personally like the graco snugride 35

This one for a little boy

There are so many choices out there but I would suggest she visit some stores to see what is out there and play around with them and get an idea of how she likes them. Personally, I love the Snugride 35, especially for how easily the base installs. I'd also suggest a front adjust over a rear adjust as I think they are just easier to use and less chance for misuse.

I also like the Chicco Key Fit. It also installs easily and is a very nice seat.

My personal fav, and what I just bought for my March baby, is the Onboard 35 Air. It fits great in a Peg Perego P3, which I strongly prefer to any "travel system" stroller. It is big enough it should make it through the '11-'12 winter for a Feb/March baby. My 16 month old DFS fit in it with about 4" of growing room.
