How close have you gotten to 1" from the shell RFing?

Just curious how close people get to the limit.

We have moved our baby to convertibles in both of our cars, but are hoping to still use her keyfit30 for holiday travel (so we can use a travel system.) She still has >1" over her head, but it's getting close. I'm not a limit pusher, but she has just over 1" and the travel system is sooo nice for the airport.

Now that I know better, no where close- yet anyway. My kids haven't the hight and I have super tall rfing seats.

Back in the day, dd1's head went way over the shell of her infant seat. I thought she had to stay in it until she was 20 pounds- and that didn't happen till 18 months old!

I think I'd honestly be ok hitting the last millimeter on that inch. :) They still have an inch... they aren't at the top at that point. Same as I'd be fine with a 45lb child RF'ing in my XTSL :)

I don't know. I like to have the head well within the shell. The way it's shown to measure it on that well used link, well, to me it's too close for comfort! What extended rear facers I've had so far haven't gotten that close.

I had my daughter in her cosco till she had 1" (maybe a bit more) of shell above her head...which was also good as her radian arrived just then so would have put her in the radian no matter how much room she had left in the cosco.

I've used it AT 1" from the top of the shell, but generally not as an everyday kind of thing.

I squeezed every last moment out of my KF30! DS2 was 1" from the shell at 9 1/2 months old. Dang that long torso! I really thought we'd make it to one!

I'm ok pushing it to the limit where the alternative is too turn the child forward facing (like when approaching the limits of a big convertible) but where you have a choice (like infant seat vs convertible with more headroom) I'd definitely use the convertible.
