What do you mean by overkill? I probably wouldn't BUY a Regent for a 30# 4yo, because it's extremely unlikely that she'd need the height and weight capacity. But if I already owned the seat, or it was a smoking good deal, sure, I'd use it.

I don't have any photos on *this* computer but this is about the size Josef was at that age.

He was moved out of his Regent at barely 40lbs because he was getting too long thru the torso for it.

Bare in mind his was purchased in May of 2007, when there wasn't any other long-term harnessing options for long-torso'd kiddos.

Well DS isn't 4 QUITE (december b-day) but he's already 37 or 38 inches tall and 37lbs. He's comfy in his Regent. If I was buying something RIGHT NOW I'd probably choose the Frontier over the Regent just for the booster option down the road.

insanely huge, and she'd be swimming in the seat. I know someone that might be getting rid of hers, and depending on the deal, it may be in consideration for Sofi. But...um... maybe not. I don't know where I'd install it  Center of Gpa's CRV, no one else could fit next to it, I'm sure. Center of Gma's Escort wagon (still w/o TAs for now though- so no Regent), no chance of anyone next to it. Center of Durango, nope, no TAs. Center of my Sienna? Uh.... I probably wouldn't be able to fold the outboard seats. So, the more I think about it, maybe it's just a moot point.

Christineka- Can you fold an outboard seat with it center of your 2nd row?

Ds2 has rode in the regent a few times. He's 3.5 and 33 pounds. He fits fine. I wouldn't buy the seat for such a little tyke, but if I happened upon it, I'd use it. My kids love the regent because it's super cushy, comfortable, and easy to buckle.

This is almost exactly the size Josef was when ours was bought. He was 3.6yrs and 30lbs. Barely able to use the 1st harness slot, so we moved it *very* quickly to the 2nd slot.

Weight isn't everything. A 30 lb 4 year old could still be very tall. I put DS in a regent quite young because he was absolutely huge. Then he lost a bunch of weight because he wouldn't eat. He was still on the third slots at only 2 years. I wish there'd been better rf'ing options back then.

22? months, don't know the weight...it was before he lost weight obviously...look how chubby! Over 30 lbs I think.

I can get a pic tomorrow, but DD is in the Regent. 4 years old and 34lbs. But the Regent was DS' and he's in a booster now. The seat looks like it could eat her whole LOL

Macha's been riding in her Husky since she was 4, and she couldn't have been much more than 30lbs. Sorry, no pics of her in it at that age.

Is it overkill? I'm sure someone must have pictures.....

Absolutely not! The kid might only weigh 30 lbs, but if he's long/lean, especially in torso, he might very well NEED the height. If a child is outgrowing a convertible by height at a young age, it makes sense to purchase the tallest harnessed seat available in order to keep him harnessed for as long as possible (or at least make it passed age 4 ).

The majority of kids I know have outgrown seats by height WAY before they ever would have outgrown a seat by weight.

I bought a Regent for DD1 when she was that size and it was waaaaay too big fir her. She used the second from top slots but the crotch strap way a good 4-5 inches away from her body so she would slide way forward in the seat. I didn't like the way it made her spine curve in the seat so we sold it and got a Nautilus.

My friend bought a Regent for her DD who was the same size as mine but with a shorter torso and she fit better, but still would slide forward a little and hang from her crotch.

Hmm, I didn't think about the crotch strap. Sofi can still use the inner position on the TFP when RF.

I should take a pic of DS in his Regent tomorrow. He's definitely not swimming in the Regent. He's not swimming in the crotch either. So maybe it's about how the kid is built more than actual height/weight? He's on the second from the top slot now.
