blvd65 old style vs new style head wings

Our Blvd65 is set to expire next fall. It has the old style head wings. DH really likes the way they appear to have extra protection for DS's head. In looking at pics, it seems the new stlye Blvd65 ones flare out more than the one we have does. Is that true? If we want to get the same, then we need to probably get one soon before all the closeouts are gone I think. But if they wings flare out, then maybe it's not much different than any of the other seats we have. (DD may be moving to a booster around when the Blvd expires and then DS could have her TF for rfing, even though it doesn't tether and I do like that. He could also go in the EFTA or RA50. - we don't NEED a new seat to replace the blvd necessarily next year, except DH likes the headwings . . .)

Are there any kids that have just as much rfing height room in the Blvd70 because of the redesign even though the shell is shorter?

I have one old BV65 and one newer one. The head "wings" are similar enough that the same covers can be used on both seats.

I tried my dd in a BV70 at the BRU bench and she was just *at* the RF height limit (1" of shell over her head). She is exactly the same in our BV65 sitting on the floor at the proper recline angle. But, since I didn't install both in our car and try them installed, I can't say for sure that she'd have the same amount of growing room in both. It is probably very, very close though.
