You can use it with a lap/shoulder belt too. Just layer them together in the slot.

I wish they would bring that back to the US.

I went to a 2nd hand store that is notorius for selling old seats. They had an old European seat with metal bars on back. Similar to the late 70's model American seats. Then I saw the Vario. He told me it was 5 Euro and I offered him 3. He took it....... I will post pics later...

:ROTFLMAO: I love the look on your 17 month old face. That "What the heck are you doing to me woman?!?" look. ;)

I think the seat looks awesome. I so want one for the middle of my 3rd row.

She HATED it... This was her afterward. She knows what seat is safest.

Johnathon begged me to let him use it. LOL. I didn't cave, but he still wants to use it.

 to River.

Um, what is the theory behind that seat? I mean, how is it supposed to protect a kid in a crash? It looks like a lap desk.

Is there a DOM on that? I could swear emandbri had one of those ones before they switched to the stair-step look (IIRC there was something about a kid's nose imprinting in the shield, they cut down some shield to prevent it breaking noses and faces...of course, if it's new-ish and I'm remembering wrong, forgive my senior moment )

Babyherder, it's actually a very safe design, it holds the child down in the seat and spreads crash forces over a significantly larger area than a harness does, it also allows the head and shoulders to move forward together to help prevent neck injury... I had the Recaro model, and a Kiddy and Cybex version may be coming back. It's wicked hot in summer, though, many kids really prefer a harness for some air and ease of movement :)

There is no DOM, stickers or anything on it. The pouch that held the info, is empty. I am sure it is quite old. This shop is known for taking seats out of the trash and selling them.

HaleyCPST I made a parental decision to switch the chest clip AND SK okayed it. ;)

I've seen a newer Cybex shield but it seemed bigger than this one. And closer to the child. This looks like a kid could slide right under it. But anyway, its probably one of those things that seems illogical to me. As long as its safe, I'm ok with that.

these pics remind me of our britax laptop... how I loved it and still miss it... man, that was such a great niche seat for lap-only positions or for helping put 3-across in a small car.

if it is the same limits as the laptop, then your oldest is too big for it and your youngest too small... but of course, it's also likely expired.

Having the Britax chest clip on it most likely means she had one of the original tiny SK chest clips and switched it out so that it fit her older kids better. The original ones weren't spaced very far apart. Fantastic for tiny babies, not so great for older kids.
