when to introduce

I was talking to DH about whether to become a tech, but worrying that I wouldn't atually use it. He said the hospital should do it when parents are leaving. Of course, I think parents have a lot on their plate right at that moment. But got thinking that when they do the parent readiness classes .. that would be a great time. Before they have a chance to do it wrong. Does anyone do that? Have a class and/or carseat checks specifically aimed at expecting parents?

Yes, a tech I work with holds car seat classes for expectant parents, and they're VERY well attended. She does them at one or two local hospitals, so they're advertised with the other classes (Lamaze, hospital tour, etc.) Our seat check events also tend to be parents-to-be (often people who attended the class).

I wish they did those here at the hospital... our health department encourages them for women on WIC, but not all women are on WIC (I'd venture to guess a lot of the lower-income women in my county have better CS usage than the well-to-do ones

Hospitals here do. Nearly 100% of my clients come from those classes (Children's and Swedish Hospitals, the expectant parents classes, the carseat classes, and the dad to be classes). The information the parents are giving me when we meet is VERY promising.
