I went to a carseat check today ... mostly just curious, not because I really felt my seats needed checked. it was from 11-1.
First the bad:I got there around 11:15 w/ my car & my mom's. We were there almost an hour and no one else came during that time. How disappointing. The SK only does approx 2 a year. I asked how they advertise because I've NEVER heard any ads for seat check events and I've actively looked for them .. I only knew about this because i had talked to the SK rep a few months ago. .. She said they did advertise in the paper (I don't get it) and send flyers to daycares. The local fire dept does checks also by appointment. The rep said the fire dept does about 8-10 / month. So that means between the seat check and fire dept only about 150 families in the county w/ a populaion of 116,000 people are getting checked each year. .... :crying: but, if it takes that long to check 4 seats, I don't know how they would handle a big turnout? Although since we were the only ones, they probably didn't rush.
now the good: I've heard horror stories on here about people going to checks and being told they shoudn't have their kids RF or 4+ harnessed. So, I was really curious what response I would get. ..... They were really impressed and said "keep doing it!" .. they also said they never had anyone come to a check that had their seats in so good. They couldn't find anything wrong and didn't want to take them out . they asked if I had considered becoming a tech. I told them I thought about it and the rep said there is a training coming in the spring, or the hospital in the next county does trainings sometimes. So, i am considering it.
