Hi, I am trying to find a guard for a graco carseat buckle because one of my 16 month twins insists on unlatching hers. right now I am zipping her jacket over her harness so she can't get to it. I can't find anywhere to purchase one or even find out if there is one available.
thanks for your info.

HMMM....

Generally speaking, car seat buckles should take more strength than a 16 month old child has in her hands. It could very well be that this particular buckle is defective and you may need to order a new one.

In the meantime, and I am not sure about this, can you remove the buckle (stalk and all) and re-thread it backwards in the seat so the button is near her belly? It is definitely more awkward to get to, for you and for her.

Darren or anyone else.... is this a safe temporary solution while she orders a new buckle? Is there any reason not to do this?

I think it's OK to do, as long as it still buckles securely (some may be one-way only)...I have actually even read someplace that if you can't rethread it, you can even give it a half-twist. Of course, if you think about opposable thumbs and the geometry of it all, the baby may be able to get her thumb under there even better to get it unbuckled!

Hmmm I can't find the threads but in the past I have suggested that people take their kids on a 20-minute drive to the children's favorite place, like McDonald's or something like that. Explain to the child that if the carseat comes unbuckled or the child otherwise squirms out, the car stops. When everyone is safe, the car starts again. Keep doing it for the whole trip. Eventually you get there and hopefully, the child will stay buckled. It might take a few tries with such young ones. :)
