Re: 3 across in a Grand Am?

If I can find some time tonight, I'll head over to my SIL's (she has the SS1 seat, I only have a base) and try out some combos.

Pixels, have you gotten a chance to play? What seats do you have?

Re: 3 across in a Grand Am?

It finally stopped raining today. DH has his car at work right now. I'm hoping to get some time in it this evening.

I have an Avenue, a BabyTrend, and two Radians here. DH is going to try to pick up our TrueFit and ComfortSport on the way home. I don't have an AIO, which I know OP is trying to keep. I'll use the TrueFit as a stand-in (the TF is an inch wider) for the AIO and try to minimize puzzling, and see if I can come up with anything.

Re: 3 across in a Grand Am?

I tried using the TrueFit as a stand-in for the AIO, but there was no way the TF was going to fit next to anything without major puzzling, which defeats the purpose of the stand in. I gave up on it pretty quickly. I wanted to stay away from the Radian, as I know it's a pricey seat, but it was necessary for it to work in this car, at least with the seats I have.

I was able to make two combinations work, one with two RFing seats and one with two FFing seats. These are all seatbelt installs, as DH's car doesn't have LATCH.

BabyTrend with base, needs a noodle. Tough to click into base, but doable.
    FF Radian
    FF Avenue
This was ugly to install. I had a hard time getting the seats independently tight (though I was able to get there), and as noted above the BT doesn't click readily into its base. You have to wiggle and push down on it.

RF Radian (toddler angle if you want to be able to use the front seat)
    FF Avenue
BabyTrend with base, needs a noodle. Clicks readily into base. Door bumps the seat.

I'd be willing to bet that RF Radian/FF Radian/BabyTrend would work as well. I didn't try it as I started having contractions, so it was time to quit.

FF Radian in the center next to RF Avenue didn't work. Neither did RF Radian/FF ComfortSport/BabyTrend.

Thank you so much for trying these. Its looking more and more like I'm going to need two Radians for the seats to fit well, and that's not the results I was hoping for! Is the Avenue a lot smaller than an AIO? I'm not familiar with this seat, but I'm off to look it up now! Thanks, again.

It looks like the Avenue is 1-2 inches narrower. With carseats, it's all about puzzling. For example, I had the BabyTrend next to the FFing Radian in one scenario. The Radian and BT fit around each other, so that the narrower parts are what's hitting, and the wider parts are over (not touching) the other seat.

Is the Roundabout getting ready to expire or something? I just ask because I know the old style Britax puzzle really well with Radians if they are both going the same direction. If it's not expiring, I'd try Roundabout rf, Radian rf and and infant seat. If it is expiring, nevermind!!

Yes, it is about to expire. That's why we're needing to replace it soon, unfortunately.
