    Tell me what you drive

Just for fun I thought I'd ask what everyone drives. Also please say how many kids you have in the vehicle. I'm seeing avatars with car pics but I'm not really a person who knows what the cars are.

I'll go first. I drive a 2002 Dodge Caravan. I have one child in regent and another RF in a MA. I do not like my van due to the low MPG and the fact that it has Gen 3 belt buckles. However, it works fine so far and both seats are installed with LATCH.

    Your turn
Mama to boys age 9 (50.5" and 52#) in Regent and age 6 (46.5" and 42#) in a Marathon and boy age 17 months in Chicco Keyfit.

Re: Tell me what you drive

We have two vehicles in which the kids ride routinely. A 1993 Suburban and a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport (2 door).

The boys mainly ride in the Suburban, but I can fit everyone in the Jeep if I need to do so.

DH also has a '93 XJ6, but the kids have never ridden in it to my knowledge. lol He recently traded his '84 Pontiac Fiero (which the boys had ridden in once or twice individually, it's a two-seater) for an '88, which needs a new engine, so no one has ridden in it. lol

I have an escort, with a turbo booster and the scenera in it. It's supposed to seat 5, but it really only seats four, since the middle back belt is broken.

We have a 99 Buick Century with a husky center and safeseat outboard. I can also fit a radian rfing on the other side!

We also have an 05 Hyundai Elantra with a safeguard and marathon rfing, both outboard. There is no way another seat would fit, rendering it a 4 seater.

We have an 03 Honda Odyssey, currently with 2 kids, soon to be 3. Right now there's a regent in the captains chair behind the driver, and a marathon ff in the chair behind the passanger. Soon there will be a safeseat1 in there somewhere!

Re: Tell me what you drive

we've got an 06 mazda3 hatch with two kids. we're anti-SUV by policy and we're still in denial about needing a minivan, so the mazda it is. technically it's a 5-seater, but practically speaking the two carseats take up the entire back bench...

we've got a recaro YS installed via LATCH, rock-solid, fits the car perfectly, and we've got a scenera temporarily RFing via LATCH. not as rock-solid as the YS, but okay.

for routine trips around town and to visit family, there's nothing bigger needed, and it gets okay gas mileage (33 hwy). but for really long trips and major excursions we wish we had something bigger. for now we have a yakima rack on top with a carrier, and we can load stuff up there if we run out of trunkspace.

dillipop--is your hyundai a sedan or hatch? we had an elantra GT hatch, and thought it was the perfect size... smaller than an SUV but big for a small car, and the gas mileage was awesome! too bad we had recurring problems with it, so we finally unloaded it for the mazda... (i had been wanting something sportier anyway )

We have the sedan. It has worked well for us so far, we can fit the joovy caboose in the trunk with a load of laundry. Gas mileage is ok, not great, but better than the van we traded for it.

That said, when we were given the buick, it became my main car with the two kids, since it has more trunk space and rear seating room. We can fit the joovy, volo, and 2 laundry baskets in the buick and get 3 seats across, so it made more sense for me to have the larger car. Dh took over the elantra to drive the 20 miles to work.

I have a 98 sienna with 4 kids in it, Elizabeth behind driver, Benjamin in other captain's chair, and Jacob and Daniel in the back.

Dh has a 2000 camry, I haven't had all 4 kids in it yet but if I had to do it I would be okay putting my 10 year old in the front in a booster, he is 111 lbs. I have had my three oldest in the camry and it worked.

I'm getting a 2004 sienna either this week or next, it is on it's way from California, I'm VERY excited!

I've got a 95 F150 with a standard cab. I sometimes have a TB (high back or backless depending on height) in the passenger seat when I'm transporting friends or neighbors kids. I haven't had a harnessed seat yet, and need to get the tether installed before I do that.

Re: Tell me what you drive

I am driving a 2004 Mitsubishi Galant. Bethany is in her Husky (LATCH) driver's side outboard and Ben is rearfacing in his Boulevard (LATCH) on the passenger side. There is enough room between them for a few small toys .

Dh drives a 1995 VW Jetta. Ben's seat is Beth's old Britax Advantage (seatbelt), rear facing on the passenger side and Beth has a Turbobooster on the driver's side.

We are coveting a minivan just because any road trip and we are squeezed in like sardines. I totally want a Sienna (8 passenger) and keep trying to figure out when they are coming out w/ the hybrid version.

Re: Tell me what you drive

We have a 2003 Odyssey with a Safeseat1 behind the driver, backless booster in the 'slid to the center' passenger side captain's chair, and a Britax Parkway in the third row passenger side (I'll put Huskies back in the back when I recover from detailing the van a few days ago, I'm still not ready to venture back out to it, lol). No side curtain airbags, so any outboard seated child is always harnessed or SIP boostered.

The 2006 Ford Escape has a Roundabout RF behind the Driver, Britax Starriser Comfy in the center, and Parkway outboard. With side curtain airbags I can theoretically relax and let them (9 and 7 year olds) ride in backless boosters, but I never can get rid of the 'what if we were in a crash today?' feeling, and keep them as protected as I possibly can.

    Driver side - rf MA (24lbs 14mos)
Center - SS1 (future foster baby)
    Passenger side - empty

    3rd row
    Driver side - ff DC (34lbs 3yr)

I have a 2000 BMW 323i, my dd rides in a Marathon in my car, passenger side (RF right now, will be back FF in a few weeks probably).

DF has a 2004 Nissan Xterra, my dd rides in a Regent in there, passenger side or center.

Re: Tell me what you drive

I drive an '05 8-passenger Sienna with side curtain airbags and stability control with a RF Blvd. installed with LATCH in the second row center, and a Regent installed with the seatbelt, long belt path, and recline bar in the third row center. Grandparents ride with us regularly or else I'd opt for a smaller vehicle.

DH drives an '02 Saturn L100 sedan with side curtain airbags (but poor side impact crash test scores ) which currently has a FF Radian in the center and a RF Blvd. passenger side (seatbelt installations). A Regent also fits in the center next to the outboard RF Blvd. or MA if you install using the seatbelts.

I drive a 2005 Ford Focus Wagon with ABS and side airbags--only in the front though . I have a RF RA and Regent in there rock solid. Not much room in the back for anything else though!

DH drives a 2001 Honda CR-V with a RF MA and Parkway.

I would love a new car! Possibly a Mazda5 or Ford Freestyle or maybe a larger minivan like the Odyssey. I just can't swallow a higher car payment right now.

Our main kid vehicle is a 1997 Olds Silhouette van. Currently we have a ffing MA in the captain's chair passenger side and HBTB in the other one. Oldest dd is riding 3rd row, no seat.

Dh has a 1997 Chrysler LHS, Gen 3 belts. We only use it for everyone when the van is in the shop. Then we have MA in center, an Ambassador driver's side with oldest in no seat on passenger side. I will soon have to move the HBTB to dh's car or get another HB booster for middle dd as her ears are nearing the top of the seatback. Hmmm, maybe that would be a good reason to buy that Parkway now. I'll have to see if there is room to buckle the Turbo next to the Marathon.

We have a 1990 Mazda 626 that dh drives to work. It has a HB Turbo for dd (9) and a Laptop for ds (5) in case of emergency and for use as backup seats, though I will be getting Parkways for both some time this year.

We also have a 1994 Mazda 626 that belongs to my MIL, but that is ours to use indefinitely. In there I have 2 Huskies outboard, installed with lap/shoulder belts long path, with tethers. That's the car the kids are in almost always. I installed retrofit tether anchors in both cars.
