Where should we go from here?

I recently had to switch my ds (3.5) from rf to ff in one of his seats (quickly approaching 33lb limit). Now that he is ff in the roundabout I don't think I love it as much. I feel like there isn't much protection around his head. His head is still below the top of the seat and he has plenty of harness time left but I think I want headwings that will adjust up as he grows. Or even just a shell that sticks out more on the sides around his head. It seems like the britax seats have sides that stick out more around the lower harness slots but the not as much for the higher ones, kwim?
So with all that, wwyd? Should I try something to continue rf for a few more months or get a combo? Am I just crazy and the 5 point harness is plenty of sip?

A 5-point harness provides plenty of side impact protection. He's plenty safe in that seat.

However, a Roundabout is not likely to get a child to a safe booster age and size -- chances are, you WILL need another harnessed seat. If it makes you feel better to get that next harnessed seat a little early and you can afford to do so, there's no harm in that.

I don't know. If he's got tons of harness height left at 3.5 he may get to five in the Roundabout. But a combination seat would be fine at his age. Or another seat to rear face in longer. The My Ride, EFT65, Complete Air, and Radians would all work for him. But I don't know that I'd buy another rear facing seat at 3.5 unless you have someone to pass it down to. I'd probably buy a combination seat (if you want deep, look first at the Recaro ProSport).

Ds is an only child so there is no one else to pass seats down to. So if I bought a combo, which will also make a good booster for a kid who has a short torso? I've heard the nautilus doesn't booster well for children who fit in the harness and it might be several years before he outgrew the harness in that. Does the prosport work well as a booster?
