Hi, I am expecting twins Dec 2010 and am shopping for car seats. From what I have read, if you have 2 seats, ideally you should install one in the middle and one behind the passenger seat...but I'm not sure this is right and/or if my vehicle will accommodate this.

I drive a 2006 Lexus RX400h which has roomy left/right seats and a small flat middle bench.

Any advice is very much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

If you were having one child, I would recommend using the centre seat--but with two, you're going to have enough to worry about :) Appropriate, properly utilized and installed child restraints in the outboard seating positions are just fine. It's a reality that most parents have to use those seating positions at some point--and this way you don't have to decide which twin you love more that day (uhh--that's a joke, honest..) If you're really concerned about the side impact, you should shop for a seat that provides additional side impact protection AND keep those babies rear-facing as long as possible so they can benefit from the additional containment that may be provided by rear-facing.

The KeyFit (now sold at Costco, or at least on the Costco.ca website) is a popular recommendation for twins--since they're often small. It's also a really narrow seat that may well fit side-by-side another in your vehicle, and will fit well front-back in your RX. I usually don't recommend seats, but when it comes to twins, IMO, they're the best infant seat option out there so I would recommend you try one (or two!) in your vehicle before December.. in fact--you'll probably want to try them out around the 6-7m mark, just in case.

Congrats!
