booster questions

So my spawn will be 8 in November. 52#s and 52" All leg. Spawn has low tone and well, issues. His meltdowns have become pretty managable, and I think for short rides he would try really hard. Long rides, if he naps, I don't know. My concern has been that he is kinds fluidy. As in he just kinds of spraws out, doesn't seem to be able to sit up for very long at all. He slumps and lays against the harness of his husky.

Currently he is in a husky in my prius. Over teh weekend his torso appears to have grown 1/2" So maybe 1/2" of harness left, expires in July. I just moved him up to the highest slot last Sept.

In my dad's truck he has a nautilus. He was throwing a fit about it hunching his shoulders and crowding him. I raised the wings up a notch and he seems less fussy. Oddly, he still has a 1/4" of so left in it as a harness. So I went to try it as a booster. Um, it sucks:thumbsup: The lap belt fit is awefulllllllllllll.

We also have a radian, which I was thinking of putting back in teh truck. I just moved him outboard, so it might install better. Would you feel comfortable with this child in this vehicle (2002 chevy silverado with tether) with teh shoulders over the harness slot? I am not sure how it fits in it, it is in my mom's car and she has been out of town.

I also have a rstv that my dad wanted, but I am not sure about him using it.

So I will need a new seat for my car and a new seat for the truck sooner then later.

I would love something with rigid latch, but ds wants to stay in the center of my car which does not have latch. No latch that I could find in my dad's truck (does that seem right - he has two tether hooks).

I have been thinking pro booster, monterey, special needs seat, or frontier85. Ds would love having a blue probooster or frontier, but he is pretty agreeable. He likes all of them in theory. Within 1 hour I only have a turbo, pronto, air boost, and big kid. The other seats would be atleast 3 hours for me.

So please help me.

With his low muscle tone and developmental delays (I'm not trying to be harsh or judgmental but that is what it sounds like your describing) I would recommend the Frontier 85 because it has the tallest harness slots that would enable you to keep him harnessed.

The Frontier 85 has the tallest harness of any non-special needs seat, but it's the same as the Husky, 20 inches. The Nautilus harness is a couple inches lower, are you sure he hasn't outgrown that already? It's possible, weirder things happen when you actually install seats in vehicles.

Yes, it's certainly possible that the truck has no lower anchors even though it has top tether anchors. I don't have my LATCH manual at hand to confirm, but LATCH was phased in during that time period and so it may not have lower anchors. At any rate, your son is over the LATCH weight limit, so any installs must be with seatbelt.

Rigid LATCH, well, very few seats have it. I can't think of any current harnessed seats with it. There are a couple of boosters, but frankly he doesn't sound booster-ready (physically or behaviorally).

To continue harnessing him, you have a few options. He can sit in the Radian for one more inch. He can use the RSTV. An 86Y might give him the additional support he needs. Then there are special needs seats, such as the Traveler Plus, which is like a Husky with a higher weight limit. I'm not sure if it has higher top slots, so that will need to be checked.
